…to keep this week movin’!
I added a new series of photographs to my website titled “Recent Work”. I made these while I was in Maine a couple weeks back. Super beautiful landscapes, warm light, great friends, delicious food, solid drinks, etc. Check them out here.

As a young child I rode horses in the fall at Beak and Skiff, our local apple orchard in Syracuse, New York, but I had never really interacted with horses or large animals. While staying with Kelly and Jenna in Hope, Maine, they had the duty of taking care of a friend’s animals, specifically two horses, two pigs, and two dogs. Ironic; two’s all around.
Each evening Kelly and Jenna would tend to the animals, and I will follow closely but from a distance to observe with my camera. It was intimidating to stand next to the enormous horse partially pictured below, and Kelly and Jenna noticed. “Is this your first time around large animals?” they asked. “Yes…” I hesitantly but not nervously replied. I have a strong, natural intuition about most things and I felt no reason to be anxious around Horse. I held out my hand to Horse’s nostrils and he deeply inhaled, smelling my skin and earthy musk. And then we were both at ease. It was as if we had known each other for a long time in one short moment.

“5. Look inside. Deal with that stuff in your life that you’re not dealing with, or point a spotlight on those things in you that you know not what they are. Personal sacrifices and insights are a huge key to individual creativity and often bring out the best in who we are. These experiences can be humbling and challenging. Haven’t talked with your brother in 2 years because of that fight you guys had? Reach out. Not sure why you have an aversion to hard work, success or failure? Explore that. And let yourself experience those emotions, those pains, or those moments of clarity you find on that journey. Those things can drive incredible work in your creative self. What pictures could you take that no one else in the world could take? Those can only be found by looking inside. You want a “signature” style? That’s where you’ll find it.”
