Daniel Cooney’s Emerging Artist Auction

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I made this photograph in the fall of 2007 while assisting a week-long workshop that John Paul was teaching in Utah. It’s being shown in Daniel Cooney’s Emerging Artists Auction and bidding is open from September 24 (today) until October 15, 2009.

See all of the works up auction here and see my photograph here.

“As a young boy I endlessly explored the fields and streams near my family’s home in Syracuse, New York. Within the landscape I discovered remarkable fascination in seeing water flow gently over rocks and calm winds dance freely through grassy fields.

In these moments I began to feel that the landscape and I were able to communicate without exchanging a single word.

Although I am many years older now, I continue to feel this way while making photographs today. I aim to communicate these feelings and ideas in the photographs I made while visiting Utah for a week in the fall of 2007.”

Large format in Africa

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I will be using my large format camera in Africa. It will be expensive to shoot 4×5 film over the course of 2 months. A large portion of my fund raising will go towards basic things like the costs of film, instant film, and processing.

Why not shoot digital? I experience a certain magic and feeling through shooting with the large format camera. It’s like seeing the first snow fall of year after year — the feeling remains strong and worthwhile.

Support my fundraising by making a donation here. It’s for a great cause.

From Richard Renaldi’s blog:

Photographer David Wright will be traveling to Uganda to photograph the people and landscape for a traveling exhibition and book that will be used to raise funds for A River Blue (a non-profit arts empowerment project for the children of internally-displaced persons in Northern Uganda). He is selling prints through is blog at a reduced price to help finance his trip and has graciously asked me to help him get the word out. This amazing experience will help shape and define this young photographer – how could you not want to be part of that!

From Shawn Gust’s blog:

David Wright emailed me the other day to ask if I could help spread the word for him in his fund raising efforts for an upcoming trip.

A chance to support a great photographer with a meaningful project. A beautiful print of your choice in exchange for your donation. Take your pick here.

Limited Edition Print Sale – Support A River Blue!

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

In January 2009 I leave Maine for Alebtong, Uganda, where I will spend two months volunteering and photographing for A River Blue, a non-profit arts empowerment project for the children of formerly internally displaced persons in Northern Uganda. I will be using my large format camera to photograph the people and landscape for a traveling exhibition and book that will be used to raise funds for A River Blue. Details will be announced in the spring/summer of 2009.

I initially thought of asking for donations to fund the trip but have decided that I would like to give back to those helping my efforts.

I am offering a selection of my photographs at a substantially reduced price to finance the two month trip, as well as the cost of moving from Maine to New York when I return in mid-March 2009.

Each print is $100 (unframed) and $150 (framed). Prices include shipping and handling. The framed images are matted to 11×14″ with white archival mat board and the wooden frame is white, elegant, and made by Nielsen Bainbridge. The print is protected with plexi glass and the finished piece is stunning. Thank you to Jared Cowan at Asymmetrick Arts for making the framing affordable.

In a sense, if you donate $100 you receive an unframed print and if you donate $150 you receive a framed print of your choice.

NOTE: Please order all prints by 8PM EST Sunday, December 14th. That will allow me to get them completed before I leave for Africa. Unfortunately, after December 14th I will not be able to accept print orders.

A print (or two or three) is the perfect present for the approaching
holiday season!

Payment is available through PayPal using the links below, cash, or check. If paying by cash or check, please contact me at david@davidwrightphoto.com so I can reserve your print(s) and send you my mailing address for payment.

Please click each image thumbnail to see the large image.

By purchasing a print(s) you will be supporting my volunteer efforts with A River Blue in Africa.
