Shawn Gust – Print Sale
Wednesday, December 31st, 2008Shawn Gust is starting the new year off right with a wonderful print sale. Shawn was 1 of the photographers Ethan and I visited while on the road for Pause, to Begin. I highly recommend picking up 1 of his prints before they’re sold out!
From Shawn:
I hope your holidays have been wonderful. I wanted you to let you know that I have just made some limited edtion prints for sale on my blog. The photos are beautifully matched with the season and will make a great addition to your growing collection of art. Also, there is a bonus when you order. The Human Rights Education Institute will get 50% off all print sales for future projects! So, what do you say? Get art, help out.

Thursday, December 25th, 2008Snow, Studio, and Sigur Rós
Sunday, December 21st, 2008I’m finishing a job for a client and listening to the videos below in which Sigur Rós explain the feelings and thought processes behind each song off their Takk album.
There’s also a blizzard happening outside. They’re calling for 8-20″. Maybe I will sleep at the studio tonight.
Fujifilm USA Donation
Thursday, December 18th, 2008Fujifilm USA is my new best friend because they have agreed to donate a substantial amount of instant film that will be used by the students of A River Blue and myself while in Africa. We are thrilled to have Fujifilm USA’s generous support, especially with the current state of the world’s economy.
There’s no electricity where A River Blue is based in Alebtong, Uganda. Fujifilm’s FP-100C Color Instant Film will allow the students to immediately see the photographs they make because there’s no electricity needed to use the film.
It is my hope that the students will be able to examine and see their photographs, and in turn write about what lives within in their photographs and themselves: their hopes, dreams, feelings, wants, and needs.
Thank you, Fujifilm USA, for making this a reality.
Limited Edition Print Sale open! Ships April 2009
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008The print sale remains open! Any prints purchased from here on out will be printed and signed when I return from Africa in March 2009. I will ship all of them together in early April 2009. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
All prints that were previously ordered will ship either Thursday (12/18) or Friday (12/19) via USPS Priority. The price paid for the print includes free shipping and handling. It’s a great offer and I am excited because we all benefit.

In January 2009 I leave Maine for Alebtong, Uganda, where I will spend two months volunteering and photographing for A River Blue, a non-profit arts empowerment project for the children of formerly internally displaced persons in Northern Uganda. I will be using my large format camera to photograph the people and landscape for a traveling exhibition and book that will be used to raise funds for A River Blue. Details will be announced in the spring/summer of 2009.
I initially thought of asking for donations to fund the trip but have decided that I would like to give back to those helping my efforts.
I am offering a selection of my photographs at a substantially reduced price to finance the two month trip, as well as the cost of moving from Maine to New York when I return in mid-March 2009.
Each print is $100 (unframed) and $150 (framed). Prices include shipping and handling. The framed images are matted to 11×14″ with white archival mat board and the wooden frame is white, elegant, and made by Nielsen Bainbridge. The print is protected with plexi glass and the finished piece is stunning. Thank you to Jared Cowan at Asymmetrick Arts for making the framing affordable.
In a sense, if you donate $100 you receive an unframed print and if you donate $150 you receive a framed print of your choice.
Payment is available through PayPal using the links below, cash, or check. If paying by cash or check, please contact me at david@davidwrightphoto.com so I can reserve your print(s) and send you my mailing address for payment.
Please click each image thumbnail to see the large image.
By purchasing a print(s) you will be supporting my volunteer efforts with A River Blue in Africa.

Thank you for your support!

Katie Cantor Thesis Show at The Art Institute of Boston
Sunday, December 14th, 2008I am pleased to announce the opening of Katie Cantor’s thesis show at The Art Institute of Boston. Katie’s photographs are remarkably beautiful and it is an exhibition you do not want to miss. Three of her classmates are also exhibiting so why not see 3 exhibitions in 1?
Katie is also my wonderful significant other and you’ll want to attend or she’ll take her anger out on yours truly. I also highly recommend purchasing a copy of her lovely book here.

Ethan Jones at Michael Mazzeo Gallery
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008Ethan Jones and I became good friends in the summer of 2007. Later that fall we decided to create Pause, to Begin. Needless to say our friendship has been nothing short of worthwhile and I am pleased to see him exhibiting for the first time in Chelsea at Michael Mazzeo Gallery. I wish all of the exhibiting artists lot of luck

Limited Edition Print Sale – Week 3 Update
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008It has been remarkable to see and experience the profound support of the photographic community, my friends, and my family in regards to my print sale. The reality is that I could not be making this trip without the donations and blogging made thus far. The prints I have shipped look beautiful and the framing option has been immensely popular.
Now the bads news. There are only 4 days left to order prints!
All prints will ship out either before or on December 19, 2008 and in theory will arrive before December 25, 2008. To make this feasible I will only accept orders until 8PM EST Sunday, December 14th. Orders placed after December 14, 2008 will not be printed and shipped until I return from Africa in March 2009.
