Hi David,

I came across your work on Flak photo and on Conscientious a while ago and can't wait to see the Alebtong series at the Anastasia gallery this February. Congratulations on the show and on being one of Jorg's portfolio contest winners. I think the series is great, and I really enjoy your blog too. Your post about the cottage and preparation for the trip to Africa was especially inspiring.

David, I noticed 2 images from Martha's Vineyard! I'm on the island pretty much the entire summer working nonstop. Will you be there at one point? I hold court at a little cafe, Che's Lounge in Vineyard Haven around 10AM with coffee in hand and 8x10 by my side, on sunny days. About 3 to 6 artists and collectors will stop by, including past students of mine to chit chat! I make it a point for folks to connect. Love to have you be part of it! The charm is you do not know who will appear. Example, 2 great characters, Ed Keating New York Times, and the legendary Les Krims are some of the most colorful of characters.

Write to me and I will send you a portrait I made of both of those guys.

Oh, these photo were shot in West Tisbury?

David, my father passed away gently last Friday. He was surrounded by his family. I made documents right up to and just after his death, including the wake and funeral as short films. I know have 20 years of my father's life. It will take me some time to digest this experience. And now I will be working on a book all about it. I posted on Facebook a short film made at the wake. It starts from the open casket, and pulls back through a crowded room of people chatting away, pulling back further leaving the room into a very quiet hall. It kind of says it all.
